Puzzled Doctors
I just got back from Florida yesterday. I think I really needed the time to rest and relax. I think some new perspectives were viewed and some bonds that already existed were strengthened. I saw the ocean again. It never fails to impress me. I was standing on the beach in jeans and a hoodie with the 55 degree wind blowing and women on either side of me in string bikini's sunbathing. I just had to shake my head and pull my jacket a little tighter around me.
I moved up my appointment with the Neurologist. I actually went and saw her today. I was told that I am a puzzle...but that she likes challenges. This failed to inspire any confidence whatsoever. I am scheduled to have a Electromyography and a Nerve Conduction Study done later in the month, along with more bloodwork and a trip to the dermatologist. Let me explain what those two tests are, just so you will be better informed.
Electromyography (EMG)
It's a recording of the electrical activity in muscles. A tiny NEEDLE electrode is INSERTED into a muscle and it records the electrical activity of the muscle during INSERTION, while the muscle is at rest and while the muscle contracts. THIS INCLUDES MULTIPLE MUSCLES, NOT JUST ONE!!
(I've put the words that make my nose crinkle and the nerve endings near my rear tingle)
Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)
Several recording electrodes will be placed on the skin. A stimulating electrode will send a small electrical charge along the nerve. (Doesn't seem so bad really.)
I'm going to get the blood work done tomorrow. She is checking for Lyme Disease and Lupus among like 20 other things. I'm more nervous about the blood work because I've had a strange reaction the past two time. But I know...I shouldn't freak myself out about it. And strangely, I'm not really that scared of anything. I do want the weird twitches to go away and the pain isn't really that fun....but whatever they tell me is going to be okay. It would be really cool if I'm just so strange that I end up in a medical journal somewhere!!

So it's a little after the fact but I thought I would comment anyway. Remember the peanut butter, dear! REMEMBER IT!! ^_^ And look, it wasn't so bad was it? Things are shaping up to look better for you so dont you dare go panicking on me yet. As for the needle thing...Don't worry Buzz, I'll check this out and I'll bet it's not half as bad as everyone keeps making it sound. All the same...in your shoes you know how well I would handle it. I'm still proud of you for being this brave!
