Complaints
You know that when a conversation starts with "I 'never' complain"... it's not going to be fun. That's what happened to me last night. A lady ordered crab legs and then was very dissatisfied with them. This happens, you can't please everyone. I apologized and asked if she'd like anything else off of the menu. She wrinkled her nose and told me her appetite was basically ruined. I offered a free dessert and she looked at me like I had grown another head. She then proceeded to tell me about how she used to work in restaurants and how "Word of mouth" is very important. By this point, I had no clue what she wanted me to do. I didn't make the crab legs and I had already apologized multiple times. I brought the ticket, minus the legs, and she started again about how the butter wasn't melted enough. I went and told my manager to go over to the table because it was obvious she wanted to complain to someone and I wasn't satisfying her. My manager was of the same opinion. There was just no pleasing the lady.
There is no reasoning with people like that. The only thing that will make them happy is to just let them bask in their unhappiness. End of story.
