Don't Me
A rounded corner glances crumpled sheets
Double take
Setting suns fractured through windows shattered
Reconstruct from white to amorphous blood-like dripping
Striations laid down innocently
Crinkled blinking restores
A night spent restless and turned
Battles lost as bodies fallen
Corpses of blankets that couldn't hold on
Double take
Questions unasked with tilted heads
A refuge for dreams with cloth that cradles
Or a cage of twisted netting
Hostages held for nightmare viewing
Unwilling
Double take
Steps retreated softer than echoes
Whispered in dreams under shadows
Defer the inevitable until
Trepidation settles numbed in hollowed out
crevices of minds riddled with thoughts
Unwanted
Double take
