Aint no Other
So I'm finally updating. I think I just had to take a couple of days to really process everything. The family went on vacation. It was fantastic and I hope that we can go back soon. We visited the Orange Beach area of Alabama. Driving in a car for long distances are definitely more fun when you are driving with PEOPLE! I'm glad that we got to spend that time together talking and listening to different kinds of music.
The room we stayed in was right on the beach and the view was breathtaking. Something about being so near the ocean is very therapeutic and cleansing almost. I love it!! That water was incredibly warm too!
We went out to eat on Saturday with some friends. I think a great time was had by all. I almost peed my pants when we were trying to get Holly to eat a raw oyster though. It was such an event that we had an audience and they were all laughing so hard! I'm not even kidding. We even had money on the table. I had tears rolling down my face from laughing so much! Needless to say it didn't really work. I also had Mahi Mahi for the first time. It was VERY GOOD!!
On sunday we took a trip to DESTIN and went snorkeling and dolphin watching. The boat we were on was pretty nice! It had a bathroom and a fully stocked bar and a VERY cute captain! We went snorkeling in a national grassland area and found tons of hermit crabs and we saw blue crabs. It was also there that I got stung by a jellyfish. First time ever! It didn't hurt as bad as I thought it might. In fact I didn't even know that's what had happened. I thought maybe I had gotten a cut on my wrist and then saltwater had gotten into it because it was -stinging and burning- more than anything else. But after a couple of minutes I got this little welt-rash thing. They just sprayed Windex on it because it's basically ammonia and that stops the stinging. It's ironic that I got stung there though because shortly after that we went to a different location that was SWARMING with jellyfish. We only got into the water for a short period of time before a couple of people got stung and we decided to not chance it. They aren't incredibly painful but they definitely don't feel good either.
We started cruising the shoreline and quickly found a pod of dolphins. Our captain/tourguide said they looked like they were playful and they might be mating. A lot of them were jumping out of the water and doing this flip things that I thought only happened in Sea World. They came right up to the boat and we wanted to see if they would swim in the wake, so he cranked up the engine. OH MY GOSH that was amazing!! We were going so fast but they were keeping up with us and jumping out of the water so close we could almost reach out and touch them. The weather was perfect too! While we were cruising around, Holly got a tan on the deck. My nose, shoulders and back got really red, but it was fading by the next day. Not too bad.
Like I said, I can't wait to go back! Oh yeah, I've posted some pictures on the flickr site, you can see some of them in the bar on the right.
