The Business of Insanity
I love making fun of cliches. They are so -tongue in cheek-. This, however, doesn't make them less true. For my life right now the phrase "When it Rains, It Pours" comes to mind. I know that everyone experiences times like these. I suppose it should make us appreciate the 'down time' more.
A lot of things are happening, some I'm not going to talk about here. Lucky for you, some I am.
I was sitting at my desk today when a nurse walked in saying she had a "Fan who wanted to meet me." What the hell??
So I laugh and give her the standard "whatever." She says she's being serious and a few seconds later a lady walks in. She's very business like and I instantly felt grubby in my scrubs. I stand up and she already has her hand out. This is how it went:
Her: I just have to shake your hand. You are a genius and have such incredible talent.
Me: Huh?
Her: The pictures in the clinic? You drew them right?
Me: OH! Yeah, yeah I did. I mean, I draw from reference though, I didn't just make them up.
Her: (Still shaking my hand) WOW! I mean, they look so realistic.
Me: Blank stare and raised eyebrows. Is she for real??
Her: Do you do commissions? My husband is a heart surgeon and we are building a house this fall. Our son loves Elephants and we are hunting for a muralist.
Me: Ummm, I've never painted...I'm not exactly a painter.
Her: From what I've seen you can do anything I'm sure!
Me: Oooohhh no! But I can always try! (I have bills too!! and a HEART SURGEON)
Basically it ended with me giving her information and her walking out on cloud nine. She's talking the entire room painted, not just one wall!!!
I don't know if anything will come from, but I thought it was kind of crazy and surreal. Needless to say I got endlessly teased for the rest of the day by people asking for my autograph. How embarrassing.
I also have accepted a rather large portrait commission 16x24 and something for father's day for another person. It's pouring right?
