Nine Eleven

I woke up at 9am Wednesday morning, can you believe it? I can't either, but I truly did. I got some errands done, had lunch downtown which was really nice. Cleaned up a little bit, put away laundry, wrote some letters. I tried to find this blockbuster that I've been two at least half a dozen times but for some strange reason I couldn't find it. That's not like me at all, once I've been some place I can usually find my way back. Crazy! I'm convinced it's in some sort of weird Time/Space wormhole and just keeps moving around. That makes much more sense than me not remembering where it is.
That night started out pretty horrible. It was so absurd I just had to laugh about it. I got a table of 8 senior citizen women. We're talking oxygen tanks. I knew I was in trouble when they started off with "What's happened to the sweet potato's? We've been coming here for years and we always order sweet potato's." Then they wanted to know why we didn't have raw oyster's. I wanted to tell them that not only didn't I know what happened to those food selections, I hardly cared. I just wanted their drink orders. But I smiled and laughed until they wanted to special order. I had to bug my manager twice for stupid scallops. I tried to tell them we couldn't do special orders but one old lady put her hand on my arm and begged me to 'just ask'..."for us". Dammit if she didn't almost look like she could cry. Old ladies are wily and manipulative!! Needless to say they also wanted 8 separate checks. I also had a table who's check was $60 and left a $3 tip.
Around 7 things started looking up though. I got a table of 15. Cool bunch, if not a little bit demanding. They wanted their food fast. Thankfully most of them got water and beer so I wasn't killing myself doing refills. I just brought pitchers out. As I was getting to-go boxes, though, I noticed my manager over by their table talking to them. My stomach dropped. Later on I was passing her in the kitchen and she told me she didn't have time to listen to tables telling her what a good job I was doing, so cut it out. (She was joking of course) Then this couple came in and ordered drinks and some spinach dip. They left a $12 tip! So, needless to say it was a 'hit or miss' kinda night.
Yesterday the surf was pretty incredible. Since Gustav just came through not long ago the water was still high, add to that the edges of Ike and you get flooding. The height of the waves were so impressive. The locals were all crowding the beaches because not many people had seen the waves so high before. They were just crashing into each other like crazy. I drove around and took a few pictures. If this is just the outskirts though, I can only imagine what Texas is going to see. I hope everyone evacuated and stays safe. If not, they are in for a ride.
