whirlwind weekend
It seems like I always wait too many days to write in this. I always end up 'outlining'. *shrugs* Who cares? It's MY blog anyway right? Also I would like it noted that I am NO WHERE NEAR as talented (WORDY) as my partner in crime. Please don’t think the lack of detail was due to a lack of boredom or thinking it non-important. I LOVED the visit.
THURSDAY:
I woke up at the usual time and went into work. I only planned on staying for 3 hours however because I needed to leave Oak Ridge by 10 in order to show up in Pensacola by 5. The drive was uneventful. It ended up raining a little bit, which I absolutely HATE! Doesn't help that my windshield wipers aren't working that great. *wrinkles nose*
I made it just in time for the 'ghost' seminar thingie. It was very cool! Kudos to H for making it all happen. Totally could have done without the "obnoxious, know-it-all, Mr. I have MANY questions" guy.
Then sleep was had.
FRIDAY:
Early wake-up call. Much MUCH debating over what time we were going to leave. I wanted to leave at 1 so we could have ALL of Saturday to look around. SOMEONE wanted to leave at 3 in the morning though. o.O I soon found out that it was going to storm pretty badly all of Friday DAY. And DID it storm! I thought there was a hurricane! The trees were bent over and it was so dark! That put the nail in the coffin so to speak. We weren't leaving that afternoon for sure!
SATURDAY:
2:30am and my phone goes off. That's just not right! We get on the road though and it's great! It's as if the WHOLE world belongs to us. Well, the roads anyway. As soon as we hit Montgomery the COLD air hit too. Much fun was had writing down all of the weird and bizarre town and creek names. It was so neat to see H with 'mountain face'. Except when she was driving. A particular pretty mountain would come into view and the car would start veering off the road. No worries, I didn't hesitate to scream and remind her to get back on the road…..every 10 seconds.
We rolled into town at around 1 pm and ate lunch. After that, much exploring was done! It was so cool to show someone something that I have grown so accustomed too. It's as if I were seeing it again from a different perspective with a new set of eyes.
SUNDAY:
4 a.m. wake up. *blinks* I honestly don’t know how I’m even walking. Well, I do. I’m walking groggily and with my eyes half closed. But after a shower and some coffee I was good to go. I wanted to make sure I knew where Frozen Head Park was so we took off in the darkness of the morning. Yep, I still knew where it was. We saw two deer cross the road in front of us and much laughter was had by trying to get a picture…..in the dark….with snotty deer who would stand still like a statue until the second you click the button and it walks slowly away becoming a blur in the camera. I think her family really liked the hike. We went farther than I imagined we would. It was SO COLD in the beginning because the sun was just starting to rise. Also much laughter was had by me and the mom. We would watch Heidi and Russell climb waterfalls and fall into rivers all the while we sat dry and safe on the trail. It was never annoying though. At some points I felt like a mommy cat watching anxiously on the bank as my little kitten was jumping on moss covered rocks. I knew she would fall but I also didn’t want to interfere. Near the top waterfall I started cramping something AWFUL. 6 miles later and we were tired (but in a VERY good way) and VERY hungry! We also needed to change badly. After a quick lunch we were off to Gatlinburg. That was fun! I convinced everyone to ride on the ski lift. Well, it didn’t take much convincing for H. The view was magnificent. I think we also went in to EVERY gift shop. *laughs* It was so cool to be with people who had never experience it though. I’m telling you, it’s like seeing it through new eyes. We drove back and had a late dinner. I had a lot of fun just talking to the family and listening to how they talk amongst themselves.
MONDAY:
5 a.m. wake up. I’m beginning to feel tired by this point. I think I could sleep for days. But I want to enjoy every minute so I dutifully roll out of bed and get dressed with (in my opinion) a lot of enthusiasm. They are leaving this morning. We go to a few more stops and have more coffee and then I was driving away, leaving them to drive home. *sniffles* I hope they enjoyed their visit. I think they did since they all seem to want to come back. COME BACK NOW! There is so much more to do.
I think I’ve just now recovered. It seems like I’ve been so tired all week. It’s Sunday again and I slept until 3 pm. Okay, in all fairness I did wake up at 9:30 for about an hour or two. I feel better now though! I cleaned up the cave of clothes and papers that my room had become. I’m finally ready now to face another week. Also, I’ve been contaminated with the Christmas spirit already. It caught me totally by surprise too. Thanks a lot H!
