choke

UGH...I -hate- being sick! I woke up Saturday morning with a nasty sore throat. I went to the doc just because I was a little paranoid about my already swollen lymph-node. It's not strep but I do have a viral infection. This morning it moved up into my sinuses and I kept choking and waking myself up. Must have been all of the snot running down the back of my throat. *whines* I -HATE- being sick!!

I finished reading the "Amber Spyglass". It wasn't as good as the Golden Compass but it was better than the Subtle Knife. Lyra and Will really did some growing up in this novel. I didn't care for the ending. While I understand 'why' it had to end that way...I didn't like it and I didn't think it was very fair to Lyra. It must be the romantic in me always wanting a 'happy ending'. I'm very happy about the form that Pan decided to settle on. Will's daemon wasn't very surprising at all though, but cute all the same. I was also a little confused about Mary Malone's -part-. I think the author really builds up the suspense with her being the 'tempter' and then what she actually does leaves one wanting a little more. That's only my opinion though!

You see? You went and saved me the trouble of having to read the last installment of the book for myself. *grins* If it had been a terrific read I would have gobbled it up but the truth be told...The Subtle Knife left me a little cold. I blame Will! I liked it when we had Lyra's struggle. I think I've figured it out too. I liked that we were dealing through things in this girl's eyes. She is small and seemingly insignificant and completely unaware that she plays such an important part in world (Or world's ) changing events. The only clue we get is through her interaction with people and snippets here and there. Well t hat got blown out of the water in the next two books, I think.

LOVE LOVE LOVE that he's a Marten! Pan is PERFECT that way! I knew he had to be something weasely. Actually, I read a very interesting quote from Philip Pullman. They asked him why a Marten? He said there's a DaVinci painting of a girl holding a white ferret and he always was intrigued by it. He said it's how he pictured Lyra as an adult. (Apparently he looks at lots of paintings of people with animals and imagines them as Daemons, or so he says) and so he didn't want to say ferret or weasle. People see that as sort of sneaky or bad...so he went with a pine marten when really it's all the same thing. Amazing isn't it?

On another note...I took a personality quiz for the Golden Compass and apparently I tied for Mary Malone and Lyra as my perfect match. HAHAHAHAHA! Gracious how silly.
