A Better Monday
Today was better than yesterday. I felt rested, but 230 is still too fucking early to wake up in the morning, I don't care what time you go to bed.
A very, VERY, attractive young man flirted with me today. I shrugged it off because I just don't trust that guys like or see me in that way. At all, ever. It was very subtle and it didn't really affect me until hours later.
I had to pull him to the side and spend about 15 seconds with him and as he was holding out his hands he got this lopsided grin and said, "Well this is the third time I've gotten you." I looked up and into his eyes because I don't really make eye contact with people at work. They want to get on with their lives, we want to get through the day. It's an understood relationship, but he made me look. I saw his smile was genuine and I smiled back, "Oh yeah?" I didn't remember him, I interact with hundreds of people a day. "Yeah, kind of gives me a reason to look forward to Mondays," he said. I didn't really know what to say. The buzzer saved me and I told him he was free to go. I said, "Until next time then." He said, "Definitely."
Like I said, very subtle and very charming. It made me feel very good about myself and if I never see him again in my life, which is very likely, I will still hold a fond spot for that young man. He made my morning better. I think we should all strive to do that to people we encounter. Just a smile or paying for their coffee. Small gestures go a long way.
Just like when my neighbor waved at me the other day as I was pulling out of my driveway. That very small acknowledgement of my existence in this world... almost made me cry. It's the little things in life.
